Got it spinnin' good today, TB.
kneecapped by the regulatory process -- where'd that come from? The background is pretty clear: TXU was not facing a toughened permitting process; rather, they were denied their buddy Perry's attempt to pull strings.
bringing down a power company -- simply didn't happen, and nobody I've heard spoken of on the news had "bringing down" TXU in mind. Compliance with existing regulations was all anyone demanded, and they got it, independently of the buyout.
As to the plants, first proposed and now canceled: they were touted as necessary for future growth, not to meet current needs (pun not intended, but stet...). I am curious as anyone who lives in the area about what they'll propose when they actually need more generating capacity -- and I'm actually hoping they go nuke. Meanwhile, they (and their new owners) have time to evaluate options, and if the growth of the DFW area is slowed a tiny bit in the meantime, so be it.
Maybe, in 20 years, there will still be some open ranch land 10 minutes from either downtown, as there is now.
