re: Hollow Earth

Unlike many goofy ideas like this, this one has so damn many obvious holes in it that it would take two pages to list them all. Mass issues, seismic wave issues, you name it.

A few small physics problems for the interested student:

--What would the average density of the shell have to be to create a 1-G gravity field at the surface?

--What would the compressive strength of this material have to be to simply not collapse into a much smaller normal planet?

--What would the gravity be on the inner surface? Trick question.

The only way something like this could exist is if it were artificially constructed like Niven's Ringworld, and as with Ringworld, some fantasy materials and technologies would be required.
