Everyone over the age of 8 be required to carry a loaded gun before exiting their place of residence.
Let's see how that works. Would satisfy the NRA, and according to them result in fewer gun-related deaths.
Well, that's just a thought experiment, isn't it. Clearly it would lead to every nervous or drug-addled nut blowing the hell out of someone sooner or later. It's silly.
And yet it's what the gun advocates would love. So we can dismiss the pro-gun lobby as irrational at best, and just plain stupid under that.
Make it so miserable to carry around a gun that no one would do it. Possession or proximity would carry immediate jail while the circumstances are being investigated, and all perps would get jail time on the order of one year. No bail while being investigated.
That would eliminate guns and gun violence. NOT spreading more guns around. Sort of like eliminating tuberculosis by flying overhead dumping tuberculosis bacilli out of airplanes. Most people would say that's foolishness.
Not the gun lobby.
