And I'm glad others have waded in, because I wouldn't be sure where to start. Personally, I think the issue is cultural rather than legal. America has a gun culture. I say that with more sadness than criticism. Guns are part of the American psyche and are considered by many to be a birthright. I'm not sure that can be legislated out of American genetics.
