Warning about the so called 2007 Washington Dollar error coin.

In the coin world there seems to be a feeding frenzy over this new Washington Dollar coin. The side (edge) of the coin is stamped. On EBay, they are advertising the ones printed upside down as errors and making a huge profit on them.

The US min says they are not errors.

According to the US mint, because of the way they stamp the sides, there is a 50/50 chance they printing will be upside down. That mean out of a roll of 25, 12-13 could be upside down. That is why these seller can guarantee you’ll find an upside down “error” coin in one of their unopened rolls.

You can buy a roll of 25 from your bank for the face value of $25, I see them selling these rolls for $300-$800 on EBay. And they are getting much more than the $1 face value for individual coins.

I am not sure if the ones with smooth sides are errors. The mint says no, but they are far rarer than the printed ones. Anything rarer might be worth something. But the upside down ones- you can go get you a roll for $25 and odds are you’ll have several upside down ones. They are not rare.
