Somehow all the hype about the new Department of Homeland Security seems hollow when the borders are as porous as they are, when 11 million people are in the country illegally, and Bush doesn't care. When it comes to protecting the US borders or invading other countries, Bush & Co. just can't seem to get it right.

"Federal, state and local law-enforcement officials from Texas to California, concerned about the impact of illegally imported weapons into Mexico, say they already are outmanned and outgunned by ruthless gangs that collect millions of dollars in profits by smuggling aliens and drugs into this country."

But they do hassle honest people. No end. Try flying. Ya sort of wonder if there's anything constructive about those folks. And don't use the preventing attacks on the US. Tell it to folks in Iraq, or Afghanistan, or the survivors of 9-11. (That was on the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Rice watch, remember.)
