When the Moon hides then Sun from us on Earth, it's called an eclipse (total, annular or partial)....
When the Earth's shadow reaches the Moon, it's called a Lunar eclipse (total partial)...These are 2 very different events, and yet , the same word "eclipse" is used....
A Lunar eclipse occures at the same time as a Solar eclipse seen from the Moon....Apollo 15 missed the august 6th 1971 by several hours.
When the Moon or a planet hide a star, it's an occultation; when the Moon hides a planet it's also an occultation.
But when the Moon hides our star, the Sun, it's an eclipse....
When a planet passes in front of the Sun (Mercury, Venus), it's a transit...When Phobos crosses the Sun, for a Martian, it also is a transit..or??
Subtlety of language and old habits...Hard to change!
Eclipses, occultations, transits..and yet..
