The Gospel of John & Yoko: The Origins of Mad Morality

“Why is it morally rewarding to hate this country’s leaders and embrace its enemies? What makes it feel so good? The answer is in your definition of what “good” is, otherwise known as morality.”

It's interesting but the rabbit hole is much deeper than John and Yoko.
I think it would be interesting in terms what specific eastern philosophy most influenced them {or I guess it's mainly Yoko}. There is of course much wisdom in the East, but there is also a lot sickness of mind- there is actually a reason that the World's first Superpower become a complete basket case, which is contrary to often cited destruction due to to the various colonial powers. But in any case any eastern influence was no more significant on America than the influence on China by western powers- China was already a basket case long before that- and so was also the case of America before John and Yoko and even including all the drugs and that whole culture.

I don't accept the biblical explanation that it's inherent to human nature- but also I have acknowledge it's something that is very pervasive and goes far back in human history.
