Haven't watched much on TV since GWB was elected. He had the damnedest way of popping up everywhere, and I enjoy choice I have when I browse the web. I do enjoy watching football, however, and go into a period of mourning as December winds down.
My TV has been a 27" behemoth, with TV and VCR, which is in another room. Recently I was given a 20" Sharp flat panel TV with a DVD player. It sat in the garage for a month or 6 weeks, until I had to move it into the house. So, it fits behind the computer nicely, and has a surprisingly good picture. Since I connect to the web via cable I also get the basic cable channels.
Turned it on tonight as I was sorting through several boxes of "stuff" I have just shoved into boxes over the years. Most of it will go to someone's rummage sales, or out, or something. There are many, many things I just won't get around to doing again, or finishing, and mementos of past times. Junk.
Anyway, there was The American Experience on PBS. A show in color on WWII, and watching some of the scenes brought tears to my eyes. A good thing, crying seems to break up events so they don't get stuck in the mind.
And after that, now playing, there is a program, "In The Life", about gay and lesbian living and history. Now I've known many gay and lesbian people well, never had any sexual issues with them, and don't have any problem with the idea. I have to admit that being raised a strait-laced Roman Catholic kid the idea of homosexual activity involving me is so distasteful that I am absolutely positive it is genetic. Too many people, such as Alan Turing, unsuccessfully fought it for too long for it to be a choice. And for people such as myself it's just simply not an option.
And it's really wonderful there is this program on the air. There is a long list of funders, some of them well-known.
That would not have happened when I was a kid. After watching large areas of this country slide into the morality of the Dark Ages, it's refreshing to see a bit of movement toward understanding and tolerance.

Wow. TV today.
