Half-Dome in Yosemite

Not a great picture.

That little "egg-tooth" sticking out on top is a rather loose assemblage of rocks. You can see through gaps in them straight down for 2200 feet. If you fell, it would be one good bounce, and then another 2200 feet to the valley floor, 4400 feet in all. I walked out about 5 of the 10 or 12 feet it extends, and that was it. I don't think at that moment a gun to my head would have gotten me further.

A friend enticed his girlfriend out there, and proposed. I tried to talk him out of it, saying the consequences could be disastrous. He did it anyway, and I took pictures from the side.

We went up the easy way, along the "cables". Still steeper than hell, I wasn't going to do it until I saw a woman RUNNING down, outside the cable pathway, one hand on on one cable. Unknowingly, she shamed me.

Was talking just last week to the guy who got engaged up there. He reminded me of looking up at that climb and saying, "That's something I would just love to have done. That's nothing I want to actually do."
