The post below on that printer got me to thinking a bit. That printer seems to be a reality which could only be imagined a little while ago. It's incredible.
Two things which don't seem to have progressed as described are voice recognition and virtual reality. Not saying there hasn't been progress but not as I thought we were promised.
As I recall about the time Win 98 came out Bill Gates said he was going to devote the next two years to improving voice recognition. Big priority. I've tried it relatively recently, and it's not as good as typing when one factors in the corrections. Not nearly as good. But I'm a relatively fast typist, and appreciate the ability to pause to think a bit, too.
And virtual reality was supposed to be coming to a helmet near me. I'm not saying it's not available, seems to be put to good use training pilots for instance, but it's not in a helmet near me, I don't know what it would take to drive it, and I don't know what would be available on it. I was hoping for an IMAX experience at my leisure, but my IMAX experiences are limited to what I see all the time, free, with just my Mark I eyeballs. No helmet.
Wonder what anyone else's experience with these things are, if I've somehow missed yet another boat.
