Another good Yul Brynner movie based on a true story. And Charlton Heston makes a wonderful Gen. Andrew Jackson.
Jean Lafitte used to hang out in Galveston before it was Galveston. There are dozens of legends about him here in Texas and in Louisiana. Most of those stories involve lost buried treasure.
His stronghold there was called Campeche. (I believe the UT Medical school now occupies that site. I talked to a guy there that said they had to fence off the old site for all the treasure hunters that would come and want to dig up the place.)
