I believe the pressure of a failed foreign policy, failed wars, loss of US prestige, respect, and moral authority in the world, in other words a completely failed presidency, has forced the man into a corner.

It is clear; his promises, statements, his calmly related assurances have been demonstrated to be false, and he either knew or should have known they were false. He is cornered. Never corner a coward. They will stick with their untruths to the end. I believe he is verging on stark, raving mad at this point.

And he will never admit to having been either wrong or lying, preferring the coward's way of sticking to your story no matter what. And for that he will be known evermore as both a fool and a liar.
