back in the late 60s/early 70s in "Stand on Zanzibar"; one of the most prophetic SF books ever written (he predicted computer viruses and the marketing of "organically" grown food, too).

I was working at ESL/TRW in Sunnyvale when Farley went berserk and killed seven of my co-workers and wounded a half-dozen others (they made a TV movie out of that episode with Brooke Shields).

This is symptomatic of something, but I'll be damned if I know what it is. It's not a failure of the law, these people obviously do not fear punishment or death, but something is breaking down somewhere in our culture.

I know if I decided to go postal, I'd make damn sure the people I took with me deserved it. Just going out and wasting complete strangers makes no sense at all.
