In the first place the vast majority of research done on these drugs is financed through the NIH. That's Uncle Sam, that's the taxpayer. Us. You and me.
Drug companies then license them from universities and charge the government whatever they want for the government-funded drugs.
This is not true, as I have documented several times in the past. The total R & D budget for the largest U.S. pharmaceutical companies exceeds the ENTIRE budget of the NIH, never mind just the drug research.
