"Mission Accomplished!" --Harry Reid
Reid drew criticism from Bush and others last week when he said the war in Iraq had been lost.
The Nevada Democrat did not repeat the assertion in his prepared speech, saying that "The military mission has long since been accomplished. The failure has been political. It has been policy. It has been presidential."
The news stories were based on released copies of the prepared speech. Somewhere along the line, some horrified staffer must have seen this, and it no longer appears in the copy of the prepared speech on Reid's website, describing the latest Unconditional Surrender Proposal. Don't know what version appeared in the actual speech.
Winning this war is no longer the job of the American military. Our courageous troops have done everything asked of them and more. They routed the Iraqi military, captured Baghdad in days, deposed and then captured the dictator. The failure has been political. It has been policy. It has been presidential.
