A friend of mine has a Victorian dollhouse for which she collects things. She will go nuts over this!!!
We gave her a Moravian Star for her window, which she had never heard of, and the middle daughter made her a miniature version (not electrified) with cardstock, diamond dust and fishing wire for the dollhouse. I have made miniature layouts myself, notably an Iroquois longhouse with a cutaway section to show the interior living space, with little personal belongings.
Making miniatures with clay and the creative use of materials and objects is a lot of fun. It was a sad day when those little ridged screw caps became rare in toothpaste packaging: they make great lampshades for dollhouse furniture. We've made goblets and candlesticks using decorative brass or silver beads and jewelry findings. Barnes & Noble stocks bookmarks that are miniature woven copies of actual oriental hall rugs, and those rug mousepads are perfect for a living room suite. I wouldn't have the patience to do the Hobbit House, though.
