re: DNA

DNA is tough and definitely being adaptive is it's greatest achievement.

I don't think that there's a cancer gene. I think cancer is everywhere and our DNA has been a saviour for the most part in protecting us from the environment. Just why some are more likely to sucum to cancer more than others is still a mystery, but we're getting close. Heredity has been known to hold some mystery clues. A combination of things that we put into our bodies (healthy ones: antioxidants, vitamins, proteins) may also have a great deal to do with it.

My mother has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. There is NO history of breast cancer in our family. On the other hand, she is ninety five years old. The oldest member of our family. Her sister died at ninety four by natural causes/no cancer.

Overall, I'm sure our environment/changes in surroundings and climates over thousands(millions?!) of years have had a great deal to do with it all.
