US - population 300,000,000. Other NATO countries, a bunch.

And the US and NATO are kicking the hell out of the Taliban. Over and over and over Conservatives have been bombarding us, for 5 years been bombarding us, with news of kicking the hell out of the Taliban. The Taliban has been mowed down in the midst of their wedding celebrations, schools, hospitals. Wiping 'em out.

In the meantime very little of Afghanistan is in the control of the US or NATO, Karzai is in control of one city and part of another, opium is thriving and OBL is loose.

Tell a big enough lie often enough and someone, somewhere will believe it. Certainly the people who generate the lies don't believe them, but depend upon the next ranks, the people who spread them, to take the lie upon faith. And they seemingly never get tired of being made the fool.
