"Man dies taking survival test under guides’ care."

"Dehydration killed participant; wilderness leaders had water, didn’t offer it."

The article says the leaders carried "emergency" water. An "emergency" must be if they are thirsty. With his speech slurring and the guy collapsing someone should have had the sense to suspect there was some sort of an "emergency".

This sort of thing builds character two ways. I suspect the leaders of that school are content knowing that poor bastard died a horrible death, but with class.

And those leaders have had to reach deep inside to excuse themselves for this kind of behavior, which borders upon murder. They are now ready for Federal positions in Eastern Europe or Guantanamo.

I realize hindsight is easy, second-guessing is cheap and that these sorts of experiences are designed to push the limits. And I realize that there are "markers" for intervention. This fellow had 3 or 4 of those markers, any one of which should have been enough.

The school has protected itself from civil liability. I would not think they would be free from criminal charges, though.
