People since ancient times had a member of the tribe they went to for divining. They have to have somebody who can help point the way out of the darkness at times. Some of them were wrong or displeased their leaders, and during some medieval times, some even lost their heads.
I'll bet at least half the Zoners here have had their fortunes told somewhere along their lifetime.
