re: But, what *is* the problem?

I know in El Paso, illegal are straining the heck out of their medical and education systems. Houston is feeling it some. In Houston, Caucasians are actually minorities, yet we make up the majority of the tax income.

My fear is that the tax paying middle class that supports this country is going to be strained until we can no longer do it.

The other thing I don’t like, and this is probably more personal than anything else. I have seen Houston double in size since the 1970’s- both in physical size and population. I watch thousands of acres of forest fall as our population burst. I don’t want to see millions of illegal add to our growing population. I don’t like over population. Houston used to be called the big town with the small town feel. Not any more.

I also feel like we are loosing our culture. Last year Houston’s soccer team changed its name from the 36’s (named after the year Texas became an sovereign nation- 1836) because it offended the Mexican Americans. Yet they had a big Cinco de Mayo parade through downtown Houston. That is not even an American holiday. It is a Mexican holiday to celebrate Mexico’s victory over France. Yet if we wanted to have a Texas Independence Parade, they would run us off. They expect me to accept and respect their culture, but they will not do the same for mine. They say mine is offensive to them, and I find that offensive.

Enough ranting.

If Mexicans want to live in America, I don’t have a problem with that. But they need to do it legally. They need to fill out all the forms and do what it takes to become American, tax paying citizens.

I would rather see them all stay in Mexico and change their country the way they want to. Maybe if they didn’t have such an easy escape route and they were forced to stay in Mexico, they would do something about their own country. There are enough of them that they could change their country if they wanted to.
