I also read these books at the recommendation of another Zoner, and found them by far the best fantasy I'd read since Tolkein: every bit as richly realized, with characters you care about immediately.
My favorite aspect of Pullham's construct is (are?) the daemons. I was afraid, while looking at the production stills, that they'd been omitted from the film adaptation... then I saw the trailer. I have no reservations now.
I read library editions, back-to-back-to-back, when the third volume was published. Now I think it's time I had my own copies.
