re: "To support" and "to justify" are different things.

Maybe. I suspect that if the shoe were on a different foot, and somebody in a survey either "supported" or "justified" blowing up, say, abortion clinics, the response from the liberals would be merciless, and the word "nuance" would be thrown out the second story window.

I find it interesting to see where people are willing to cut slack and assume "maybe they meant something else" as opposed to where they go right for the jugular.

The exact question in the survey was "Can suicide bombings of civilian targets to defend Islam be justified?" That's pretty specific.

Of all U.S. Muslims surveyed, 8 percent said "sometimes," 5 percent said "rarely," 9 percent said "didn't know," and 78 percent said "never."

I suppose this could easily be seen as a glass "half full." The justification numbers in France, Spain and Britain are a lot higher.

Unfortunately, the 18 to 29 group taken out comes out as 15 and 11 percent for "sometimes" and "rarely," with 5 percent "don't know."

I believe that one possible reason for this age difference is that there is a serious issue in this country with Muslim education being run by radicals in many places. This is also true in other countries, and sooner or later this will have to be addressed.

The whole survey can be found here. There are MANY important questions, and nobody will get a good idea of the big picture unless they see the rest of it. There's encouraging news in there, too.
