re: Earth-Sun L2

Earth-Sun L2?

"He avoids rotating components by beaming power to Earth's night-side... which isn't the most profitable market unless people start charging cars en masse at night."

Well, other than L4/5, Earth-Sun L2 is the only place to do it if you want to give constant power during Earth's nite [and also for part of the lunar orbit, the Moon's farside- and either of the Moon's pole.

That is strange. That's quite distant to beam power. But if anyone knows anything about beaming power it's Landis.

I guess if he thinks Solar power will be used a lot more in the future- power at nite could be in short supply. And suppose the areas used for solar power generation could also receive beamed energy at nite- and these areas would be already connected to the grid. And of course the advantage to this is it would help sell solar power use on Earth [they could provide constant power]. And not only does it help sell solar power use on Earth, but he has "customers" who will promote the Space power.

So, I would say that is pretty realistic.
And of course that would good for Lunar development- and again he could make most of the profit from selling electrical energy in Space. Lunar water could be shipped to Earth-Sun L2 and moved back to Earth-Moon L-1 as rocket fuel [about every month]. And if he can beam power to the Earth, he beam power to the Moon- though not constant in one location on the Moon- unless it stays above one of the lunar poles
