People have been known to be hit by celebratory gunfire, directed into the air, but it is extremely rare. These two officers were hit within moments of each other, and people heard only three or four nearby gunshots. Also, at the Chief's news conference he made it a point to say the bullet trajectories indicated it was fire coming from the crowd, or possibly from behind it. Either someone was taking careful aim at them with a rifle, or they were extremely unlucky and both got hit accidentally with fire sprayed in their general direction. But even if they were hit deliberately by aimed fire, that still doesn't rule out it was white provocateurs. What better way to discredit the protestors' cause and demonstrate disgust at the AG's report. Of course, it could have been black provocateurs just as easily, trying to start racial conflict, but we can't say with any certainty it was.
I just feel that the known facts; two cops hit almost simultaneously, pistol bullets (is that even known for sure?), fire from a distance, fire from within the crowd, can't all be true. Something has been left out, or added.

A very small chance indeed.
