Well, you seem to be assuming that Earth wouldn't be able to recover quickly. I tend to opt on the side that it would. On the scale of weeks, to months, it seems to me that Earth is capable of such feats. Its the eco-tree-huggers that seem to think that it can't happen. Listen to scientists. The earth is tough. If it wasn't, we wouldn;t be having this conversation.
