Grandstanding

... which will probably come to naught.

There's a good long Wikipedia article on the status of the movement(s) to impeach GWB here.

On May 10, 2006 House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) indicated she was not interested in pursuing impeachment and had taken it "off the table", reiterating this phrase on November 8, 2006.

Can't say as I blame her, even though I believe mis- and malfeasance in office fall under the intentionally loose category of high crimes and misdemeanors. There are plenty of more important items of "the country's business" that need to be dealt with, rather than miring the House and Senate in impeachment proceedings which, given the too-slim majority margins, will go nowhere anyway. I also suspect, though I am not a scholar of law, that Bush might be held more personally accountable, and more appropriately punished, as a private citizen after leaving office. How about 3000+ wrongful death suits? Criminal negligence and/or reckless endangerment regarding the 2005 hurricanes? Perjury -- lying under oath, said oath being the one he took twice to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution?

Can 'executive privilege' be claimed by an Ex-President?
