Abject failure v. "surrender". 1984 is here for Conservatives.

"Moment of Truth for the President. Will he reject disastrous advice to compromise with opponents of the war?" by William Kristol.

When a situation is irretreivably lost, is it wise to spend more lives and treasury in order to avoid the obvious? Or is that reckless, dereliction of duty, malfeasance?

Conservatives seem to believe the Big Lie. Say over and over "It's not about oil", and it becomes not about oil. Say "The US doesn't torture" enough, and torture becomes something else. Say that "victory" simply awaits an election, holiday, more troops, or whatever, and "victory" is right around the corner with Democrats wanting to quit 5 minutes before the miracle.

Call total failure "surrender" in an attempt to manipulate public opinion and mask that complete failure. Ignore lies, incompetence, unconstitutional behavior and people get used to a lawless government.

Hitler used the Reichstag fire to install himself as a dictator, with the German people trading freedom for "security". The sheep in the US, looking down, have willingly, happily and joyfully done the same thing after 9-11.

While the world doesn't deserve the US, the people of the US deserve what's happened. Freedoms aren't worth anything if not protected, fought for, and defended. We, the people, have abdicated, given over to an oligarchy, conceded to power and profit at the expense of our formerly wonderful country.

(By the way, the Iraqi government won't "come around" until it is convinced the US WILL leave. It ain't doing anything as long as the US is assured of propping up their "popularly elected democracy" with military force acting against their own citizens. What a pile of crap.
