re: Lady Bird Johnson died yesterday.
My memory of her is colored by the TV stations thrown her way by LBJ on the way to their fortune. Somehow hers were always granted an FCC license, in a time when there was fierce competition. And, coincidentally, 30 days after she bought half of Bell Helmets, LBJ declared them necessary on Federal highways.
Several of the biographies of LBJ describe Lady Bird sitting calmly outside the bedroom of Air Force One as Lyndon "relaxed" inside with one or both of the two nubile secretaries who always travelled with him. One of them was quoted later in life as saying she had had no typing, transcribing or filing skills.
