re: You can never be sure anymore

Looks authentic. I have a certain amount of sympathy--I've had a snit or two like that in the privacy of my office or home. It's a phenomenon of response to a cascading series of disasters (sink starts spouting water, wrench falls behind the stove, you hit your head on the cabinet getting it, china falls out of cabinet) and so on and so on. On the "Hulk" TV show it's the sort of thing that turned Banner green), but one would have to have a very odd kind of self-involvement to let something like that loose in public.

It's long been the case that people who are driving cars develop the idea that nobody can really see them, so you see people picking their noses and doing all kinds of other silly things they would never have dreamed of doing walking down the street. The new electronic age has spawned a personality that seems to believe this is true anywhere.

People talk in theaters as though they were in front of a TV at home, and nobody else was around.

The new earpiece cell phones: Not only can you no longer tell the crazy people apart on the street, but I'm sure most people using these are convinced that nobody can overhear them, either. Some of the things I've heard...

Hey, crazy guy in the lobby. The outlets? The big secret is that they're where the floor lamps are. I've had to find laptop power at many a convention or meeting in older places. Sometimes you have to sit on a floor to work. Deal with it. And get the auxiliary battery, like I've got.
