[NSS Chpt-Leaders, from baxman2@comcast.net ]

Dear NSS Chapter Leaders:

Today, July 16th is the start of the nine day U.S. Space Observance. This commemorates the nine day anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Mission, from launch date to splashdown. U.S. Space Observance was established by Congressional Resolutions, and Presidential Proclamations, back in the 70s. It is a goal of the Utah Space Association NSS Chapter to find permanent official federal status for this nine day commemorative period.

We have some new materials on the July 20th Space Exploration Day website; which you can access at http://www.spaceexplorationday.us . The new materials include copies of the 1976 U.S. Space Observance Congressional Resolution; the 1984 Space Exploration Day Holiday Congressional Resolution; Resolutions from the state legislatures of Ohio and Kansas. In Ohio, Space Exploration Day was designated as a permanent Flag-Day-Like non-paid Holiday. Alot still needs to be done to make it well known and popular with the public.

There are also a number of new articles on space spinoffs; impact of the Space Program on the economy; and other articles showing that mankind can afford to have extensive space activity, despite the existence of social problems. Resolutions to the perceived conflicts between the two areas of interest are given.

Please check out the Space Exploration Day Holiday website.

Sincerely,

J. David Baxter
President
Utah Space Association
NSS Chapter
