The Conservative stance on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan reminds me of what kids used to do when deciding things by flipping a coin.
The coin flip - one kid loses.
"OK - two out of three", he says.
Loses.
"OK - three out of five."
Loses. It is now three in a row for the other guy.
"OK - four out of seven."
Loses.
It is now Iraqis 1000 heads in a row, squat for Bush-Cheney. Zero. Zip. Squat. Less than nothing in reality, because of the lost lives, money, good will, suffering to say nothing of the loss of American civil liberties and any credibility on human rights. The Bush Administration is saying:
Republicans to Congress - "OK - 1001 out of 2001."
And anyone who comes along and says this particular situation is lost is accused of "surrender", as if Bush-Cheney are likely to get 1001 in a row. Bush-Cheney keep saying that if we flip the coin higher, harder and faster they can get 1001 in a row and "win". While more people, real people, die, lose their families, homes, are tortured, etc.
In a fair flip, Bush-Cheney "winning" would have the statistical probability of tossing 1001 tails in a row. However, the Iraqis have demonstrated they have a two-headed coin, as was predicted before the invasion, and Bush-Cheney has NO chance. Have never had a chance. It was a fools game. As folks with a brain instead of blind ideology have figured out.
And, which fits the facts.
Remember the Reichstag Fire! The Germans were in no hurry to put it out, wanted as much effect as possible.
