Space Elevators - Use the Moon as a Proving Ground?
The lightest space elevator, one buildable with currently available materials (i.e. NOT carbon nanotubes) could be deployed from the moon to L1. It might make sense even as an EARLY step in the probably soon to be cancelled return to the moon program.
