Excellent Choice. In fact, HF has been called "The Great American Novel".

And apparently, the text stands up well to translation to other languages.

When my widowed aristocratic aunt Carmela decided to come to Miami Beach (from Cuba) for a vacation around 1956 or 57, she invited me me to stay at the hotel with her as a translator. One morning, when paying the bill after breakfast at a drugstore lunch counter, she noticed a paperback copy of Huckleberry Finn on the carousel next to the register. She bought the book and handed it to me, saying "Read this. It is the only piece of literature your country has produced."
