I am really glad to live in a place where such suspicions are not plausible.
I have never been comfortable in bear country outdoors, although I am well aware of the realistic evaluations of my chances of being attacked (slim to none).
Years ago, my wife and I went to Sequoia National Park, late in the afternoon. Took the long hike back to see General Sherman, then headed back. It started getting dark on the way back, and I started getting nervous. Just as it was getting real hard to see, a deer suddenly jumped across the path right in front of us. Probably the closest I ever came to wetting myself.
