With scrub brushes, steel wool where necessary, and a hell of a lot of soap, water, and teenage elbow grease. A winter's worth of dust, spiders, etc. had to be eliminated, along with rust spots, any traces of grease, or anything else eagle-eyed company inspectors ("white hats") might spot.
