Space/Science » in reply to Detection of high-energy gamma rays from winter thunderclouds

And sprites in Spaceweather.com

Go to Spaceweather.com and scroll down about halfway to the piece
on sprites. An amateur astronomer in France caught one while looking
for meteors. The cloud it came from was 100 miles away and the
sprite was 48 miles high. Yet they've only been observed about 30
times since their discovery in 2001.
