I don't think there's any way to prevent outbreaks of punning on the Zone, Raoul. Maybe it's something peculiar to native English speakers--is punning popular in French?--but to a certain percentage of the population, puns are irresistible, literally, and we can't help ourselves.
Punning is an odd form of humor. Where most humor in some way is based on pain and other strong emotion, puns are pure intellectual abstractions. Shiny baubles irresistible to the magpie minds of braniac Zoners. Which is to say that perhaps the penchant for punning should be considered a badge of honor, an ad-hoc Mensa membership badge that identifies the tribe. Maybe we should be more tolerant of punning?
