"Partner" is a fair term, but only one of the two belongs in the driver's seat. I've got emotions, plenty of them. When my kids get married, you're going to have to carry me out of there in a bucket. But the emotions shouldn't be the deciding vote in one's life.
It's apparent that there are people on this board primarily emotion-driven. It's a lot of fun when the road is sunny. Not so good when it isn't. And you're prey to almost any random input. The disadvantage to having your head floating on the end of a long string is when the wind comes up.
Okay, let's kill the metaphors already. (Is killing a metaphor in itself a metaphor?)
That science insisted that a bumblebee can't fly is a myth.
No educated person thought it was impossible to go to the Moon, once the basic technology existed. Scientists had the numbers down almost as soon as rockets were invented, and every step of the way was paved in reason and logic. Ayn Rand's "Apollo and Dionysis" covers this quite well.
Now, if you wanted to make a case for the role of emotion in deciding to go to the Moon, you might have something.
