NSF has given Arecibo $5 million for a new paint job.
The USAF had planned to use Arecibo for about a decade or so and
then scrap it. Wiser heads at Cornell stepped in and said they could
keep using it for astronomical purposes.
To get rid of Arecibo over a few million bucks - like I said at the
beginning, short-sighted and stupid.
