This article has lots of mistakes!!
First, we all knew long before STS 5 that shuttle flights would not have ejection seats.
Then, the use of such an escape device was very limited during a flight.
It would not have saved the Challenger and Columbua crews (the first accident was too sudden, the second too far in up and too fast a speed).
The shuttle should have been designed differently way back in 1972.
If Apollo 13 resulted in no death, it's because the crew was luckily still able to use the LM!
Cease reliance upon Russia for contingency planning regarding American passenger access to and from space.
That is ridiculous!!!! A Soyuz TM 10 A crew (Titov and Strekalov) had its life saved thanks to the launch escape system, which WORKED !!! No cosmonaut died since 1971.
