re: ridiculous

As I said, if Mahmoud actually wants to make a peaceful gesture, there are several things I can think of that should be higher on his priority list than laying a wreath.

His letter is here, along with its premises.

"...let us assume that these events are true." Cripes. It would take sixty pages to fisk this goon. And who would read it if Bush or someone else actually went to the work?

You know that I follow a broad range of opinions in the news and on the web, and you would be thunderstruck to see the amount of slack the "progressives" in America and elsewhere cut this guy. Translators work overtime to find more "benign" interpretations of his speeches, or they simply discard them as "harmless rhetoric." The U.N. treats him like an honored guest even as he spits in their eyes. A university that fights like hell to keep ROTC off its campus invites him to speak.

As an added bonus, here's his letter to the American people after the last election.

This man wrote this while oppressing his own people, shipping goddam terror weapons around the Middle East, and helping develop nerve gas warheads for Syria.

You want to know what Ronald Reagan might do? Maybe the same thing he did with the Soviet Union. Stop pretending along with all the Enlightened that the Soviet regime was just another government like the government of France. And tell the people suffering under its oppression that we are willing to identify evil for what it is, and will back them against it, at least morally if nothing else.

You have no idea what Reagan's firm speeches on the Soviet regime meant to those living in that country and in Eastern Europe.

We don't have to send armies into Iran. We just have to stand up and make a moral judgment.
