The words "full-time." Few and far between are those who have gotten rich only from writing. Somewhat less rare are those who make a living from it (if they are frugal) but that ain't easy, either. Many authors do pretty well part-time, though.

Books are better than magazine articles because they make a bit of money for you as long as people keep buying them. A magazine pays you once, and not much at that, unless you're writing for Playboy. If you work it right, you can even get things like movie rights.

Think anybody would read a book about, say, a sailing adventure? Nah. What do Kipling, Melville and Hemingway know?

"Full time" my shiny metal ass. If you've got time to write here, you've got time to plop a couple of pages a day into a good book. A few months later, bingo. A book.

The kick in the butt has to come from your own boot. Getting started is the tough part. Believe me, I know.
