...Long Beach already had yellow high sodium by the mid-seventies. I know all about them and recall how difficult it was to discern the strong yellow street lamps from the yellow signal on traffic lamps. From 1974 onward anywhere in this region the skies at night took on a yellow-pinkish haze.

To be quite honest I couldn't stand those lights and hated when they became the norm over the white lights still being used in OC at the time.

Crime went up...LB became the ghetto it now is - but hey, the city started saving money ten years later, after the initial expenditure had been covered, so that made it all worth it!
