The cleverness and skill with which the denialists present their case suggests that they are not just mistaken, but that they know exactly what is happening and how to cherry pick and interpret the data so that a wrong impression can be conveyed to a lay audience.
They are not just wrong, they are deliberately lying. People don't abandon principle like this simply in hope of future reward or eventual payment. They are being payed handsomely to lie right now, and to skilfully wrap those lies in a narrative of plausibility.
Of course, I'm not making accusations at our own home-grown denialists here on the Zone. I would not dare imply anyone is paying them to work against their own long-term self-interest-- they are innocent of the charges of greed and malice. They are just deluded. I suspect its for religious reasons.
