I am aware of these things. I read a lot more on the personal level from Iraq, including bloggers who live over there, than I do professional news accounts. I could also fill pages with personal stories from Saddam's regime that would keep you awake at night. In that case, mutiliation and murder were done with cold deliberation. Do you honestly think the guards who attacked that car knew without a doubt that it was harmless, and killed these people for the sheer sport of it?
The investigation is still going on in this case. Like the Haditha incident, it is being prejudged many different ways, and many different stories are coming from many different sources.
This would certainly not be the first time an innocent vehicle has been attacked as a possible threat in Iraq. It is regrettable, to put it mildly, but one would think at least some of the blame might be attached to an enemy that makes disguising itself as civilians, operating from civilian areas, and planting huge bombs in civilian vehicles a major part of their tactics.
