Just because the radiation 5,300 miles away from the leak isn't dangerously radioactive, doesn't mean that it's not damaging ecosystems.
WAPO is about as reliable as a rusty nail. And that was already a year ago.
The largest ever toxic algae bloom is right now in the Pacific. Its shut down some fishing industries

Some would blame the temperature spike on the radiation, but it's more due to the magnetosphere weakening in conjunction with the radioactivity. It's a perfect storm for domoic acid - a neurotoxin.

That's one of the factors in the death of sea lions and other fish in record numbers and they are washing up on shore with regularity now as their food supply moves into deeper, cooler, less toxix waters.
Isn't that the very definition of havoc in an ecosystem?
And thats 5,300 miles away. What's going on near Japan is almost completely blacked out by the news media. Japan has made it illegal for their media to report anything and violators are subject to 10 year prison terms. That doesn't sound like a good thing in a democratic society, does it?
But why? What's to hide? Well, the Corium from one of the reactors is still unaccounted for. So it's leaching isotopes into the ground and water unchecked. Imagine Chernobyl with no cement burial ground - just spewing radiation all over Europe. Water may hide it better, but the catastrophe is just as bad. It's not going away.
Parts of the Pacific near Japan are already toxic beyond all possible comprehension and other parts will simply be toxic.
Fish populations are already reducing in number and it will get worse - unless the Corium is found and sealed.

The word "collapse" is being used to describe the changes.

I love nuclear power. I'm not recommending plants be shut down. I disagree with Merkels responses. But this ongoing radiation leak has to be plugged and fast. TEPCO and the whole Japanese system of face-saving has created a high level of irresponsibility.
Incidentally there is a pending lawsuit against TEPCO by US navy sailors:
