Here too.
Holmes was no longer star-like but more like a very large naked-eye planetary nebula. Like you Laurie, I didn't see it with my eyes until they were full dark-adapted.
With the C11, It just filled the 40mm eyepiece. Moving off center a little bit made the negative space resemble a gibbous moon. There was no "nucleus" visible. Also a fine binocular sight.
