Police searches

I think they should PUBLICIZE a local program, that if they feel their kids HAVE a weapon, parents can invite the cops to come in and search. That way, parents could use that threat or a bargaining chip to keep their kids from stashing weapons. But hey, I mean....really. Don't you know if there's something wrong with your kid? His behaviour should be enough to let you know he's collecting weapons or doing drugs.

I think this is an abuse of power. No foreknowledge of them coming. Some guy in plain clothes comes to your door, flips a badge and asks if he can search Little Johnny's room because it's RUMOURED he has a gun? I'd be livid. There would be a freekin stand down at my front door.

Besides, some parents would be intimidated and let the cops in anyway. Rummaging around your home. "Now just sit down maa'am while we search Johnny's room? Oh, he keeps his backpack in the garage? We'll search there too. Mind if check his bathroom? Well lookee here, here's a bag of pot and some pills."

You say anything to them, and you're already a suspect too. If you really don't want them taking Johnny downtown, try and stop them. One word of protest, and hey, you're going too. Cost to you? Bail, lawyer ad infinitum. Johnny was set to graduate, but now he's an "offender" with a record, and he won't be getting that job for the summer. As a matter of fact, he won't be able to GET a job. And you'll be paying .....for it all. Ad infinitum.

Give me a break. This is just giving the police more power and taking it into private residences.
